If a specific page on a website doesn't load for some reason or if a link is not working, the website visitor shall see an error page with some generic message. The page shall have nothing in common with the rest of the website, which could make the visitor leave your Internet site. A possible solution in such a case is a function made available from some web hosting companies - the ability to set your own personalized error pages that will have exactly the same layout as your website and that could contain any text or images you want dependent upon the particular error. There are 4 well-known errors which can occur and they involve the following so-called HTTP status codes - 400, when your world-wide web browser sends a bad request to the hosting server and it can't be processed; 401, if you are supposed to log in to see some webpage, but you haven't done so yet; 403, if you don't have an authorization to see a certain page; and 404, when a link that you have clicked leads to a file that doesn't exist. In all of these cases, website visitors will be able to see your customized content instead of a generic error page.
Custom Error Pages in Shared Hosting
The personalized error pages feature is offered with every single shared hosting
package which we offer and you shall be able to replace all generic pages with your own with no more than several mouse clicks from your Hepsia hosting CP. You'll have to produce the actual files and to upload them to your account, then to set them for a specific domain or subdomain from the Hosted Domains section of the Hepsia CP. You may do this for each web site hosted inside the account independently, so that each group of custom pages will have the very same design as the site it is part of. If required, you may always return back to a default page from our system or to a default Apache server page. One other way to set personalized error pages is to create an .htaccess file inside the domain/subdomain root folder and to add a few lines in it. If you have not done this before, you could simply copy the needed program code from our Help article about this.
Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Servers
Including your pages for each of the four error types to any website hosted through a semi-dedicated server
account with us will be very basic and will not take more than a couple of clicks. After you upload the files inside your account, you can navigate to the Hosted Domains section of your Hepsia CP and edit the domains and subdomains listed there using an intuitive interface with drop-down menus. You could pick what page should display for each and every error type. Your options are a default Apache web server page or a page from our system, and tailor-made pages. In case you select the abovementioned option, you have to type in the link to each and every page inside your account, then save the change. The link or the type of page which will be shown if a user encounters an error can be modified whenever you want. In case you are more experienced, you could use an .htaccess file so as to set personalized error pages as well, instead of using our integrated generator instrument, and in case you choose this option, the file must be located inside the root directory of a specific domain or subdomain.
